Possibilities are Endless – Linda Remke

24 July 2015

Linda decided that her office is her favourite place for our tea date.  She set the table beautifully and served me the most divine red velvet cheesecake topped with meringue.

Linda, it is a privilege to welcome you behind my desk!

A bit about Linda

Linda, a mom of 3, has been an entrepreneur for 20 years and describes her career journey as colourful.  She is currently the proud owner of EVEOLVE, a coaching company where she lives out her passion:  to help others prosper!  (www.eveolve.co.za)

Linda loves colour!  Her business logo and website are proof of this… AND her personality is just as vibrantly colourful!

Linda’s tea cup

Linda received this handmade cup as a gift from a business associate (now a good friend) many years ago.  At first she thought it strange – a cup without a saucer, but then realised that it depicts the person who gave it to her:  very unique!

Our Live, Love, Laugh conversation:

Live:  Linda has indeed had a colourful life, which includes a fair share of seriously challenging situations in business and in her personal life.  In 2008 she was rocked to a standstill when diagnosed with breast cancer, caused by stress.  It was time to do a stock take of her life:

  1. What is serving me and what not?
  2. Don’t I also need to be served?
  3. What do I put into my life – what do I feed myself with?
  4. What are my boundaries?

“I decided to study to become a life coach who evolves individuals and companies to reach their true potential and their God-given significance. I now realise the richness of life.  I take the time to find the blessing in each lesson life teaches me and I want to pass this on – I call it ‘bless on’s’.  I live with an attitude of gratitude.”

Linda has used the adversities in her life to become an awe-inspiring woman!  If you need someone to help you find direction in your life or business, Linda is the coach you are looking for!

Love your LookLinda’s image and dress tips

“I have done a style course with Nina Brown (www.ninabrown.co.za) and she taught me that individuals are mainly seen from their waist upwards. This you have control over.  Feel free to dress in what suits your personality;  it is ok to be different.

….and never go without lipstick – my personal belief!”

Linda, you always dress magnificently and even in your appearance you are an inspiration.

Laugh:  “Long time ago I accompanied a gentleman to a dance.  At some point I decided to touch-up my lipstick.  It was dark, but I know where my lips are and don’t need to see what I am doing.  Later my date looked at me and said: ‘That looks quite interesting’.  I had no clue what he was referring to until I rubbed my hand over my lips and realised I used my black eyeliner on my lips and not my lipstick. Must have been an interesting look”.

Linda’s secret revealed:

This lady played SOCCER!  She loved group sports and when invited to join her lady friends for a game of soccer, she did not hesitate.  They even won the soccer league in the year she played.

Wow…I would never have guessed!

The crazy classy gift!

Linda is always immaculately dressed and groomed, but she is not scared of work. So I decided that a pair of rubber gloves which covers your sleeves is the ideal gift to protect her pretty clothes and well-groomed hands when doing dishes.

Linda gift

What I have learned from Linda:

Linda again proved to me that people are drawn to those with a ‘victor’ mentality and not a ‘victim’ mentality.

She does not focus on the adversities in her life, but instead she focusses on what she took out of her circumstances and passes it on to others!

This is what makes being in Linda’s company such a great experience.

Until our next tea date!

Ms Organise – Tracy Patterson

11 July 2015

Tracy invited me for breakfast AND tea and cake to Bread & Butter in Parklands.  We had loads of fun, discussed our tea date topics at length and I am happy to announce that she qualifies to move in behind my desk.

A bit about Tracy

Tracy is the office manager at Silvermoon Business Systems and is literally ‘running the show’!  She ensures that everything, and I mean, EVERYTHING, runs smoothly at the office. She has brilliant organisational skills.

This “ Ms Organise” has the most amazing ability to even help her friends and family organise their lives too J

Tracy’s tea cup

Tracy’s tea cup is part of a Royal Albert Bone China set.  The set consists of 12 tea cups and cake plates, one for each month of the year.  Tracy’s aunt gave each lady in the family the cup and saucer of their birthday month and Tracy decided to collect the entire set.

So guess what? I had the privilege to drink out of the teacup she brought with! Right there, in the coffee shop, she convinced me to ‘experience’ tea out of her special cup.

Thank you, Tracy. That was a special gesture and I enjoyed every sip of my tea.

 Our Live, Love, Laugh conversation:

Live:  “Never feel ashamed to ask for help and never condemn those who ask for help.  Childhood experiences often affect one’s adulthood and if you want to prosper and grow as a person, get professional help.” Her advice comes from personal experience as she has grown to a stage in her life where she has inner peace and happiness. She also believes family and friends are often too subjective to help and therefore it is better to seek the help of professionals such as psychologists and life coaches.

Her words:  “Take courage to move out of your comfort zone to experience growth”

How often do we not complain about our circumstances, but do nothing about it?  Here is a lady who did not wait for her life to get better, but took action to MAKE it better!

Love your LookTracy’s image and dress tips

The “Tracy Shopping Theory”:  if you find a style that works for you, buy one in every colour!!  Green, black, blue – whatever is in stock!

“NOOO!  Lianne (the image consultant) will kill you for all the duplicates in your wardrobe. She has been battling with me for years….  Ha ha ha”

No comment from Lianne…….I rest my case 🙂

On a serious note, her advice is:  know and embrace your body shape.  Do not get stuck in a rut with always buying the same styles – try something new which can also work for your body shape”

……well done!

Laugh:  Create a picture of the story in your mind and you will enjoy the humour in this:

“I attend Jiu Jitso classes, a form of Marshall Arts.  I want to be able to defend myself should anyone ever try to attack me.  I often come home with bruises and then tend to feel a bit sorry for myself.  We recently practised a new technique where I had to act as the victim.   The grip of the “attacker” put serious strain on my neck.  I was so glad that the instructor could see my suffering when he very sympathetically asked ‘is your neck getting sore?’.  In response to his sympathy, I answered in a weak voice ‘yes, ouch’…..

His unexpected, loud HARSH response – “‘now carry on and break her arm!!!!!’

I got such a fright, I forgot what I was supposed to do!”

Tracy’s secret revealed:

Tracy cannot get dressed in the morning if her bed is a mess.  It HAS to be made up before she showers – her outfit for the day needs to be laid out on it! All ready to dress once she steps out of the shower…

The crazy classy gift!

There are two things which inspired Tracy’s gift:

1) she has very little storage and packing space at home so she everything has to have a place

2) she loves shopping.

So her gift was a small dustpan and broom which will not take up too much cupboard space…and it looks like a handbag!

Gift final

What one can learn from Tracy:

Tracy is proof of the fact that we are responsible for our own happiness; we cannot rely on other people to make us happy!  We can also not experience true happiness in life, if we are not happy with ourselves first …and this lady is living proof of that.

See you soon….at our next tea date!

Wanting to make a difference – Arlyna van Dyk

3 July 2015

Arlyna chose a quaint little coffee shop in Durbanville, Cafe Perlina, for our tea date.  A place I did not even know exist.  We were even spoiled with a heater at our table when we entered shivering from the cold!

…and finally (drum roll!!!) Arlyna moves in behind my desk!  Thank you for a pleasant tea date and all the stories shared!

Arlyna desk final

A bit about Arlyna

Arlyna’s teaching career started in 1985 in Robertson.  The past 6 years she has been teaching grade 4 learners at Durbanville Primary School.

A lady who is passionate about teaching and the development of children;  someone who makes a difference in the lives of children …..and their parents.

Arlyna’s tea cup

This beautiful tea cup is a gift from Arlyna’s Mom.  Very pretty…

 Our Live, Love, Laugh conversation:

Live:    “For the right people you can do nothing wrong, but for the wrong people you can do nothing right”

Ok, you probably need to read this again to grasp the true meaning.  I asked Arlyna to repeat herself.  So, so, true!?

Arlyna strives to make a difference in the lives of people. She has learned if people are not ready to take ownership of their own lives or not ready to make changes, there is no sense in trying to help. The ‘right’ people, however, those who want to change their lives for the better, are willing and ready to accept help.  She has also accepted that ‘people need to live their own dream’ . Therefore she has stopped worrying too much about those who do not want help –   “I now live my own dream”.

Arlyna, with your warm, sincere personality, you do make a difference in the lives of people merely with your presence!

Love your Look:  Alryna shared 2 tips:

“Knowing what colours suit you make life so much easier.  You know exactly what colour clothing to buy;  what hair colour suits you best; what jewellery and makeup suit your skin colour. The colour coding session I had a few years ago definitely changed my life!

My second image tip:  whenever you buy an item of clothing, ensure it will match 3 other existing items in your wardrobe.  I even apply this when I pack for holidays or weekends away – works brilliantly!”

Well, there you go ladies!  Tips from a woman with experience J

Laugh:  Arlyna has a few family jokes which nobody else may find funny, but is very precious (and funny) for her.

So, I have learnt about “getting a monkey”!  This is when someone dumps their responsibility on you – like a pet monkey sitting on your shoulder!  You now have the burden of someone else’s job e.g.  you give a message to the chairperson of a meeting:  “Peter phoned to say he is ill and not able to do the financial presentation this afternoon”.  Mr Chairperson then asks you to phone the board members to see who is available. This despite the fact that you are not even on the board.  Now you have a monkey from the chairperson!! 🙂

I am sure there are many of us who received an (invisible) monkey…. A dreaded responsibility passed on by others!!

 Arlyna’s secret revealed:

To the embarrassment of her husband, Arlyna has a cuss word she uses at home to voice her frustration and annoyance when people take advantage of her(….I will not embarrass Arlyna by mentioning the word!).

At least she does not attack the culprits – she gets rid of her frustration in ‘private’!!

The crazy classy gift!

Classrooms are not the warmest of places so I decided to spoil Arlyna with a pair of  warm socks.  Colourful ones to represent the ‘colourful’ adventures teachers experience with their learners…

Geskenk fotos

What I have learned from Arlyna:

Arlyna is a very humble, reserved lady who prefers doing things quietly and unnoticed rather than expecting public recognition.  It has happened more than once that people take advantage of her good heart and nature, then still making inconsiderate, hurtful comments in her presence.  She has, however, never defended herself and been rude to these people.  Despite any hurt she may have experienced, she still treats them with the respect and care.  Forgiveness is key …and we learn from you, Arlyna.

Until the next tea date!
